Sam Bean - Central Florida
I live in the middle of the state which makes it hard to get enough time to get my saltwater fly fix. Usually it's when the family decides to plan a beach day.
Fortunately the line of work Iām in affords me plenty of chances for freshwater species on my lunch breaks. Typically in my free time I get on Google maps and pin-point good looking spots and if my work puts me close to one I'll go check it out. The good spots get a heart the ones I want to try again get a green check and bad spots get deleted.
As for gear I never leave home without my Wright and McGill 3wt fiberglass rod. Being a father of three great kids leaves me using the most budget friendly gear I can get my hands on, so the reel is an Orvis encounter with what I would assume is the 3M Orvis line that came on the reel originally. As far as flies go I'm usually throwing wooly buggers and clousers for sub surface, gurglers and poppers for when the top water bite is hot. Usually sizes in the 8-2 range.
Bigger pan fish and bass are my targets but if the bite slows down I won't hesitate to downsize to some small hares ear nymphs if I just want to get my line tight.
